The Lazy Chromatographer (#78)
In many respects, chromatography and related separation techniques such as electrophoresis are often viewed as trivial, mature techniques, a necessary evil used in the pursuit of “real science”. Simultaneously, separations scientists are being asked to perform faster separations on increasingly complicated samples in support of the various “-omic”-related research areas (e.g., proteomics, metabolomics, glycomics, etc.). Like any scientific activity, success in separation science requires hard work. However, now and again, being “lazy” has some definite benefits. Examples of how working smarter and working sharper can provide some unexpected dividends are provided.
