Separation of PAHs using chitosan derivatized calix[4]arene stationary phase (#210)
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are generally known as the persistent organic pollutants which could be carcinogenic to humans, widely distributing in environment. The determination of their contents in the environment especially in water is necessary. In this article, we established a method for determination of triphenylene, phenanthrene and perylene by using HPLC with a new chitosan derivatized calix[4]arene column.
Using Agilent 1260 series system as the separation instrument with a chitosan derivatized calix[4]arene column and mobile phase consisting of pure methanol at a flow rate of 1mL/min, three PAHs were baseline separated within 5 min. Under 254 nm detection, three PAHs showed good linear relationship between their peak area and concentrations ranging of 20-10000 ng/mL. The limits of detection for phenanthrene, triphenylene and perylene are 1, 0.5 and 8 ng/mL, respectively. The intra-day and inter-day precision values were less than 1.1% and the recoveries were 70%-80%.
