After studying Chemistry at the Ruhr-University in Bochum (Germany), I obtained my Ph.D. in 1986 from the University of Paderborn (Germany) studying extraction of coal-oil mixtures with supercritical gases. Upon completion of my doctorate, I moved to the University of California, Berkeley where I held a position as a postdoctoral fellow in Prof. John M. Prausnitz’s group working on an equation of state for phase equilibria of aqueous polymer solutions. In 1988 I returned to Germany joining Hewlett Packard (now Agilent Technologies) as a Research and Development scientist. In my career with HP/Agilent I have worked on the development of instruments and technologies in the fields of HPLC, Capillary Electrophoresis, Capillary Electro-Chromatography and Micro Fluidics as a research scientist and project manager. I currently hold the position of a Senior Scientist working on the design and development of next generation HPLC systems.
